Readers who want to get into Monster Romance and could use some validation on the socially awkward parts of corporate culture will be able to do both with The Gargoyle from General Management by Kate Prior. It’s sincere take on introverted personalities and playful world-building is a good combo.
I feel compelled to let my fellow readers know that this book had one of the best scenes describing aerial sexy times I’ve yet encountered. I highlighted it copiously. All the sexual chemistry was just on point.
This isn’t to say I think Prior ignores the emotional romantic development. It is slow to ramp up. The FMC has baggage to unpack to make room for that in my view.
Speaking of the FMC, Prior did a bang-up job in this corporate worker’s view of the dumb social maze of corporate culture, even in this post-COVID world. The unspoken rules to appear productive, the awkward ice breakers, the complicated professional and unprofessional aspects of coworker relationships that can appear…I could go on. I almost wish I could have seen more in the mind of the MMC’s POV, but this would have been a departure from Prior’s usual style.
ARC provided and voluntarily reviewed.
