Books cannot replace therapy. The Beauty and the Orcs by Finley Fenn still felt like a therapeutic read. Compared to some books in the Orc Sworn series, Fenn trades physical dangers for an emotional obstacle course. The three main characters will pull you through the finish line though.
That emotional journey focus is partly why this book feels like a love letter to her readers. Do we read Orc Sworn because it is sexy as hell? Hell, yes. But we keep coming back because it compels our emotions simultaneously.
Beauty showcases what Fenn can do without a bad guy ready to invade Orc Mountain and imprison the heroine. She orders her triad to face a journey of validation and inner cleansing.
She challenges not JUST the recovering addict to face himself wholly. She makes the other MMC do the same. In the meantime, the FMC gets to experience “To have a man — an orc! — want what… what she wanted.” Well, dang. Consider me pulled in by this story in many ways.
