Mystery brings them together
I essentially tore through Programmed for Love in a single evening. Lyonne Riley does that for me, and this story was no exception. Her writing embraces all it takes to write a spicy romance story and discards the rest. So, even if you are not an avid android/robot/cyborg MC reader, I think you will like this. It is a good romance first with a side of dangerous mystery for some fun.
Besides the solid story crafting, I also enjoyed the themes I picked up in this book. Of course, what is better than a machine to make you think about what it means to be human? D’s inner journey of learning more about himself through his relationship with Leah was emotional to read. It was even more heartbreaking by the time we got to the epilogue! Riley also created what I felt was a realistic business-controlled setting aboard a cargo ship that did a good job bringing out Lela’s anxieties and sense of survival. So not only will this book give you an evening of fun, it will squeeze your heart, too.
