I feel comfortable looking to Clio Evans for adorably affectionate couple dynamics that turn hot and heavy on a dime, which is absolutely what The Scoundrel and the Satyr King offers. My favorite part of this book was Ezra and Pan’s dynamic.
As with pretty much every one of the Monster Ball books, I would caution Regency fans from expecting this story to try hard to conform to historical rules. Like, seriously. Don’t.
Monster lovers? This is going to be so much fun. It gives a sense of Bridgerton completely reimagined and redesigned with silly etiquette and fanciful balls.
How The Marquis Found His Meow by Nova Blake
Release Date: May 26, 2023
Content Notes
Wallflower finds her worth
Regency
Domestic abuse
Terrible Parents
Sweet Revenge
Self-love Journey
Size difference
Nova Blake tells a sweet story of finding oneself and love in How The Marquis Found His Meow. It's a true journey of finding oneself and growth, which is what I enjoyed best about it.
Isabella is a tigress in a shy girl’s costume, and it takes a tiger man, who is a kitty on the inside, to inspire that out of her. Loved that for them. Loved their dynamic.
My only real critique is the final confrontation Isabella has with her father. Without going into spoilers, I would have made her put forth more effort because she could do it. It was an enjoyable read, regardless.
Mastered by the Sea Marquis by S.J. Sanders
Release Date: May 31, 2023
Content Notes
Independent FMC
Regency
Occult mysteries
Fated mates
Breeding
He has a mini suction appendage
Virgin MCs
Underwater breathing magic
I can count on S.J. Sanders building wherever she goes. So naturally, she built up lore for the Monster’s Ball series with Mastered by the Sea Marquis. This is one of the series’s books that takes readers out of the ball and down a crazy adventure. It was a nice change of pace.
I liked the journey Sanders takes the MCs on, and does a good job building up their sexual tension. They were well-suited to getting kicked out of the ball via painting and landing in a dangerous, sexy adventure. Their quest also left some threads I could see being picked up in future Monster Ball books if those manifest.
Emilia and the Eldritch Earl by Vivienne Hart
Release Date: May 26, 2023
Content Notes
Textured for her pleasure
Bride-napping gone sideways
Forced proximity
Mischievous Eldritch God
Scandal!
Tail play
Missing Jewels
Disgraced Family
Emilia and the Eldritch Earl was an unexpected diamond to stumble across in my Monster Ball binge, courtesyor Vivienne Hart. Of course, I don’t know Hart like I do Nascosta or Sanders, so that surprise serves me right.
Hart was given a challenge to wrap up the series as it is, and I think she did her job well. Not only did she give her characters their development, but she also wrapped up the development of others’ characters. I walked away from this series, having enjoyed the ride.
