Pictured above is Jacob Black and his werewolf clan from the Hollywood movie adaptation of the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer.
Tackling werewolves and other canine creatures makes me want to write at least a book chapter about monster romance. The topic is just too big for a little blog.
Werewolves are monsters for people who don’t realize they are into Monster Romance. I would even argue most Twilight fans are low-key monster fuckers. So there’s a lot of ground to cover for werewolves. All I can hope to do is stand on a mountaintop with you and wave vaguely at the expanse of this realm and recommend some of the spicer stories for you to read.
Werewolves and similar canines are noted for the hybrid nature of human and canine features and instincts. With an even more extensive scope thrown around the werewolf, we can add dog demons with human-like intelligence such as the Cadejo of El Salvador and the Grim of Scotland. This concept is found in wide, diverse cultural ecosystems in both the Americas and Western Europe.
There are two main differences that seem to uniquely put some stories like these in the Monster Romance category. The first is simply marketing. The second though is the author’s willingness to explore sexually explicit scenes that dig deep into the beast side of monster main character(s). That is why common wolf attributes can get…knotty.
Heaven help me from the temptation of these terrible puns.
