Wishing my fellow US residents and Americans around the world a lovely Juneteenth! Here’s another installment of the Monster Romance Field Guide for your enjoyment
The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife by Hokusai, Japan, 1914, woodblock
Is there a more classic erotic monstery motif than tentacles? The kink isn’t a recent invention. An example suggesting its erotic appeal over time is by the Japanese woodblock artist Hokusai, which is frequently dubbed “The Dream of the Fisherman’s Wife”. It dates back to 1814. So we’ve been enticed by tentacles for a bit.

Darling, It’s Better Down Where It’s Wetter
Unsurprisingly, monster romance authors take advantage of tentacles most frequently when constructing aquatic monster characters.
Less frequently, but worth noting are demons with tentacles as used by Opal Reyne in her Duskwalker Brides series.
What Do I Do With All These Things?!
When put to erotic use, tentacles shine as the ultimate penetration and domination experience. As a quick example of this in action, Lillian Lark uses her Kraken MMC in her Love Bathhouse books to display and play with his mate when they show off during exhibitions at his mate’s family’s bathhouse.
The effect gives a sense of bondage and dominance without being quite deliberate about it. Tentacles are lots of things to put in lots of holes and they are strong. They are naturally designed for domination.
Tentacle-possessing monsters with vaginas don’t miss out. They also have the opportunity to penetrate and dominate as one may note about the FMC of Surrendering to Scylla by Wren K. Morris.
Put briefly, tentacles can be used by and used on anyone. That is, in this critic’s personal opinion, part of the whole appeal.
