The field guide continues! I cannot say that this will be a weekly occurrence. I am working on the Naga Brides and Ragoru series right now, which are BEASTS in regards to both the main characters and the enormity of the writing. So these guides keep me in the writing practice while I read those series.
A Thing to Put in Your Thing.
Cock pockets are the best not-clothes. They are available for any monster-y situation where clothes wonāt work but you also donāt want everything hanging out. They are also self-explanatory. A cock pocket is a body part that holds and hides genitalia. A huge range of monsters can sport cock pockets: reptiles, insects, canines, felines, demons, cephalopods, and even plants.
Natural Solutions to Natural Lifestyles
The scenarios cock pockets are used tend to fall into one of two. These scenarios absolutely overlap.
Naked but Not Nude
The monster of attraction is part of a species that lead lifestyles closely linked to their immediate environment. Perhaps they are dryad-like guardians or lizard people hunters. Clothes donāt factor into their lifestyle. The cock pocket tucks everything away without the story needing to venture into a full nudist lifestyle.
Inspired by Our World
Sometimes monsters could or do wear clothes but the biological traits of the species they connect to in real life would use a cock pocket. Some examples of these are reptilian, canine, or feline monsters. Animals of these categories in real life tuck their junk away. Why not their monster counterparts?
I Married a Lizard Man by Regine Abel is a good example of these scenarios coming together. The lizard-like people in Abelās world both use almost no clothing because it isnāt a part of their hunter-gatherer lifestyle and their anatomy loosely takes after lizards who keep their genitalia tucked away.
But, Wait! Thereās More!
Cock pockets can sometimes go a bit further than just a storage compartment for a penis. Some authors use it as a pleasure center that can be entered like an anus or vagina. This is not yet a common utilization of the cock pocket motif and why I will include books to reference that I have not yet read myself to give those reading these options to explore beyond my limited exposure.
As a personal aside, I greatly enjoyed Lillian Lark utilizing a penetrable cock pocket in Entranced by the Basilisks. If others what to try that out in their stories, I heartily encourage them.
