For some context to this entry, I have been considering that I should talk more about monster romance tropes and motifs. I cannot just pelt the Internet with a never-ending stream of reviews without the occasional breath. We will all benefit from some change in pace.
Two Dicks. It is a thing.
I think of double penises as the Sriracha sauce of monster dicks. I love it and it appears universally loved. However, it is probably loved by some more than others. It also works with a surprising variety of things.
At this current point in (what I think) is the emerging golden age of monster romance, there are a couple of reasons why an author utilizes the double penis motif. These range from adding deeper layers to a character via their biology to being useful for sexual scenes.
It’s logical, biological
Perhaps the most obvious reason authors use two cocks is that their appearance heightens a sense of exoticism in a male main character. Sometimes, it comes down to more limbs mean more fun. The species of the character has multiple eyes and arms. So why not penises, too?
Authors don’t even have to leave Earth to find multi-limbed muses. Snakes, for example, have two penises. So a dragon or dragon shifter might have their anatomy biologically inspired by real-life relatable counterparts.
Really though, the biggest reason an author may go with the double dicks is because it is just sexy, damn it. The realm of sexual possibilities opens up to become way more interesting.
Double the spice
Where there are two dicks, there are inevitably two holes. A double dick enables double penetration. When the story uses a monogamous heterosexual dynamic, a scene that typically needs a threesome becomes possible.
Yet two cocks isn’t just a one-trick pony you can ride. One cannot overlook its possibility as essentially a rabbit-style dildo. The second dick can act like a spur à la Ruby Dixon, but bigger and with, again, that possibility of double penetration in another sex scene.
