The Orc’s Bidding by Alana Khan is a heartwarming little read about a young woman, Lark, blossoming into her own in the face of trauma and patriarchy. Who doesn’t need a little bit of that? With a sweet and possessive MMC like Orric, it was a cute story.
One of the most fun aspects of the plot was the high stakes of Lark’s old life hunting her down. I wish some of it hadn’t been thrown into high drive with her lack of communication. However, she is just eighteen, and those sort of decision-making skills checks out for a teen.

Lyonne Riley gave her newsletter subscribers a treat with her bonus novelette, Enchanting the Ogre's Heart. Norgren and Tally are both likable characters who find their bond in their mutual fear of being left alone and forgotten. It was an incredibly fast read but satisfying.
This is a great little story for Riley fans, but it wouldn’t be completely out of the question for newbies to her work. Norgen’s story picks up after Grunagg’s from Tempting the Orc. It also takes place in the same universe as Riley’s Trollkin universe. At the same time, Riley is an efficient and effective writer who can convey much information with minimal words.
