Orc Sworn fans are going to go rabid for this lore-building latest installment by Finely Fenn. At the same time, The Governess and the Orc gives newbies to the Mountain another reason to start exploring this creative and involved world.
Some thoughts on the characters. The FMC, Geva Okoro, is the sort of woman I want to woo into being my bestie. She’s tough. She has principles with the guts to stand by them. She is a natural leader. She values knowledge. She’s a badass. She is perfect for the orc clan, Ash-Kai, which the MMC Rathgarr belongs to.
Rathgarr is such an interesting and layered character. More than once I got worried for Fenn’s own life experiences because I felt she pinned down “grownup child victim of family trauma and abuse” perfectly. If I was a writer, I would be taking notes.
While I got to know these enthralling characters, the plot was setting me up for a roller coaster that I’m still experiencing adrenaline from! There was a point (Chapter 41 to be exact) where suddenly I couldn’t put it down. Sleep be damned. I NEEDED TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS AND FINISH THIS BOOK.
And so I did.
It. Was. Awesome.
