Release Date: August 3, 2021
Content Notes
Military FMC
Undercover Agent MMC
Rogue Wormholes
Alien Abduction
Sex Trafficking
Solitary Confinement
Attempted Rape
Quick Take: I want to know what female military professionals and veterans think about Engineering Fate by Alexis B. Osborne because Sasha seems written for them. From her (reasonable) trust issues to plotting how to subdue and kill everyone she comes across, she seems both unhinged and badass. I very much want to befriend her.
About the Plot: In "Engineering Fate," engineer Sasha Robinson is sent to repair satellites alone in deep space. When her ship is sucked into a wormhole, she finds herself captured and enslaved by alien poachers. Unbeknownst to her captors and every other alien she encounters in this new universe, Sasha is not one to be underestimated.
Why You'll Love It: If you enjoy the high stakes and constant danger of Naomi Lucas's Naga Brides series, this will appeal to you. You'll experience that adrenaline rush, thinking, "What else can happen?" followed by the attentions of a hot leonine alien.
Skip It If: Be aware that the book addresses harsh realities like captivity, subhuman conditions, sex slavery, attempted rape, and solitary confinement. Prioritize self-care and review content warnings as needed.
All I Wanted Was Sushi But I got Abducted By Aliens Instead by Petra Palerno
Release Date: January 13, 2023
Content Notes
Royal MC
Plus Sized FMC
Suckers
Alien Abduction
Sex Slavery
Royal Politics
Quick Take: If I ever get abducted by aliens, I want to be like Opal in All I Wanted Was Sushi But I Got Abducted By Aliens Instead by Petra Palerno. She is adorable and optimistic, but she isn't naive. She seems to accept what she can and cannot control. So why not get off and fall in love with a hot, nice alien guy when the opportunity presents itself?
About the Plot: Opal's life changes dramatically when she's abducted by aliens and forced to work as a dancer for extraterrestrial audiences. A chance encounter with an alien prince during an intergalactic traffic jam offers her a new path in this adventurous sci-fi romance.
Why You'll Love It: The MCs are so adaptive and positive in the face of royal politics, assassination attempts, and other serious stuff that I think of this as a light and fun read. They are adorable.
Skip It If: If love at first mutual masturbation is just too much for you, so too will the opening scene of this story.
Agnarr’s Teacher by Jenifer Wood
Release Date: June 1, 2023
Content Notes
Alien abduction
Orcs! In! Space!
Mars (Niflheim) needs women
Fated Mates
Viking-like Village
Mental health representation
Quick Take: Determination knows no truer incarnation than a woman looking for her anxiety medication. (Believe me, I know.)So, the premise of Agnarr’s Teacher by Jenifer Wood is relatable. This story reads like a love letter to all the deconstructed evangelical-raised girlies with mental health problems, so naturally, I could relate.
About the Plot: Piper seeks a herbal remedy for her anxiety after being abducted and left on the alien planet Niflheim. Agnarr, an orkin warrior, believes she might be his fated mate and insists on accompanying her.
Why You’ll Love It: Piper is a relatable FMC on a mission, and Agnarr is a cinnamon roll nurturing partner. Their cozy dynamic and steamy romance against nontrivial stakes makes for a satisfying read.
Skip It If: I could appreciate readers not being into this story if insta-love doesn’t instantly do it for them.
