Kass O’Shire pushes narrative creativity and deep world-building while delivering a steamy, quirky romance in A Polar Expedition. Even if the story didn't land everything as I read it, I still look forward to the following books.
I will always be a sucker for world-building, and I felt like I could feel O’Shire having fun with that. Using footnotes from “the author,” who was also the story FMC, it is clear there is a lot planned for this series and layers waiting to be built. I am so, so curious how the author will tackle that.
Occasionally, the footnotes and narrative style did not feel like they jived together as they could. The main narrative style utilizes a third-person omniscient narration and also added the footnotes. I think a more limited third-person narration would have made the omniscience punchier.
Ultimately, this book was a fun story. Sincerely. The main couple was quirky. The spicy scenes were fun. Read for a good time.
